OTD in 1953: Big Commie Bites the Dust

Photo from Michael Beschloss

A Washington DC restaurant offered free borscht to celebrate the death of Stalin, which occurred on this day in 1953.

I think I can find something more celebratory than borscht. There's some Ukrainian vodka I've been saving, and that might be appropriate.

TSB: It's great to remember the one guy from the 20th Century who really could 'fool all of the people all of the the time' and when looking at our own 'Baby Boom' era hasn't that been what politics is all about?

I was looking at the intro to this article on the Chi-Coms this morning by a smart guy: Authored by Steve H. Hanke of The Johns Hopkins University. Steve_Hanke.

Beijing can be big and bold when it meets reality. Remember when Zhu Rongji, China’s former economic tsar, gave 30 million workers pink slips, privatized hundreds of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and swept many others into the dust bin?

Beijing has met reality, again. In consequence, some SOEs and zombies that are dragging China’s economy down are being purged. Indeed, Reuters reports that “China aims to lay off 5-6 million state workers over the next two to three years…”

It made me think of Bernie's 'victory' rally yesterday after hearing Hillary's on the car radio promising to 'fight to overcome barriers' and provide a 'decent life' for the middle class and 'dignity' for retirees. Bernie starts by saying that we need to face certain serious facts that the media will not. Namely that the elections are rigged and the economy is rigged. And until 'Citizens United' is overturned your vote won't count for much and neither will your chances of having a decent life while both the Republicans and Dems are serving all the 'Big Oil, Big Bank, Big Everything people who write the agreements and saddle you with the bill. The message is getting thru to a lot of 18-54 year olds but the problem is very few of them want to face the reality of a rigged economy. I'm hoping that trotting out Mitt last week was a turning point showing that the Billionaires are in panic mode and Hillary's 'plans' are as bad as her botox and outfits. gwb And did you see the Berne's new 'Kansas' haircut? Spiffy!!
